Whitepaper: Counting embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells on route to treating diabetes

This whitepaper describes a reproducible method to count aggregated stem cells using the NucleoCounter® NC-202™. Induced human pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are used to produce fully differentiated pancreatic islets. These cells are capable of producing insulin and could change the lives of patients with type 1 diabetes, and many with type 2 diabetes.

As ESCs and iPSCs differentiate, they form aggregates. In order to provide accurate doses and monitor these cells as they grow, precise and accurate measurements of cell number and cell viability are needed.

Using the NucleoCounter® NC-202™, any aggregated cell type can be counted reproducibly using the aggregated cell count assay, enabling greater process control and understanding.
